Processing

The Toughened and Laminated Glass that City Glass manufactures can undergo further processes to offer greater flexibility to our customers.

We have installed precision computer controlled equipment to provide consistently high results on time and on budget.

Our Inline Polishing Machine imparts a high detail polish which enhances edge depth.

Mitres from 0 to 45 degrees can also be made to Flat Ground or Flat Polish finishes.

Processing

Since the introduction of frameless entries and shower screens, the need for fast and accurate processing has become an industry prerequisite.

The City Glass plant has installed equipment like the Master Edge CNC, and the new larger CNC Pro.

This machine is capable of cutting shapes in glass sheet sizes up to 2900mm long and 1900mm wide, in a variety of thicknesses.

Various processes, from holes to finger slots and shaping.

Capabilities include Side and Center Cut-outs, Holes (up to 35mm diameter), Complex Shape Processing, Internal Polishing and numerous polished edge profiles.

Note that larger hole sizes are possible using a routing process. Feel free to contact our staff for further information.

This is our computerised detail processor, which allows us to process glass with a high degree of accuracy and speed, thereby reducing lead time requirements and labour costs.

Edge Processing and Bevelling

We have installed equipment with a view to offering more services, thereby increasing the options and solutions available for your projects.

Our In-line bevelling machine makes it possible to cost-effectively achieve long lengths of straight bevels.

Our "ProFormer" can apply edge profiles and bevels to curved shapes as well. This opens a range of possibilities for the construction of complex furniture, bench tops and architectural features for the home, office or showroom.

The Boardroom table shown at right is constructed from 15mm thick glass (legs) and 19mm (top). All of which can also be toughened for safety.

Naturally, special applications require special fittings and associated hardware. We have a comprehensive range of hardware in stock, these include:

  • Stainless Steel Fittings
  • Hinges and Patch Fittings
  • Spider Fittings
  • Furniture Fittings
  • Cables and Fittings
  • Wall Spaces

Feel free to contact our staff for pricing and other information.

Our precision beveller can be programmed to work with complex shapes as well as unusual profiles.

Applications include

    ~ Mirrors
    ~ Tabletops
    ~ Shelving
    ~ Cabinet Doors
    ~ Furniture

    ~ Frameless Glazing

We can also set up our beveller to enable Brilliant Cutting,Commonly known as a "Cut Glass" effect. which is simply precision grinding and polishing of the glass surface.

Ceramicoat

Perhaps one of the most exciting developments in the industry since Float Glass, is our new method of applied coating known as CeramiCoat.

In this process, Ceramic Frit Enamel Ceramic frit enamel is comprised of minute glass particles, pigment and a mixing agent to enable smooth application, prior to firing. coatings are applied to the surface of sheet glass using a process very similar to screen printing. The sheet is then toughened or heat strengthened.

This part of the process has the added benefit of "baking" the coating (either solid colour or printed images) onto the surface of the glass to provide a permanent, resilient finish.

Glass thickness: from 4mm to 15mm.
Minimum sheet size: 150mm x 300mm
Maximum sheet size: 1600mm x 3000mm
Image screen resolution: 45lpi
This relates to the dot size for halftone reproduction of logos, photos and artwork. Click here for an example.

The Granite Range of CeramiCoat treatments enables natural stone effects without the expense.

Ideal as splashbacks, spandrels and shower recesses where temperature extremes and a hard-wearing surface are all part of the specification.

The solid colour range has been standardised to allow flexibility in today's architecture and decor. We apply these colours to clear glass as well as Starphire glass.Starphire is a low-iron glass product which gives almost perfect clarity, this does not alter the apparent colour of the coating.

Green Toughened, Black CeramiCoat spandrel panels
were used in the north-facing Westrans building (above).
Glazed by G&G Glass.

Four-colour (CMYK process) The four colours are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, which are mixed to create realistic colours. images can be applied to Ceramicoat panels for decoration as a repeating pattern, or as a focal point.

Here are a few colour samples from the "Granite" range.

Other Processes

We can treat textured or smooth glass to enable a range of attractive effects and finishes.

A popular trend today is towards slumped textured glass where shapes and templates are introduced to the surface of the sheet prior to heating to a plastic state.

The glass then melts around the template, A Process known as "Slumping" closely following its shape. When cooled, the finished product is ready for use in any modern decor application.

City Glass has vast experience in the supply of mirrors of all varieties as well. Effects ranging from tinted to acid-wash are available.

Call our staff for more details.

This 'slumped glass' mirror frame demonstrates the flexibility of textured glass when treated properly at our facility.

Almost any shape can be formed when textured glass is heated to a plastic state.

This inlaid section has been fitted with a City Glass specialty mirror.
